Suunto Spartan Ultra Review

If you are a serious athlete, the Suunto Spartan is going-anywhere GPS Watch. Triathlon athletes praised this watch as it can do almost anything. The watch has a large display, powerful battery, and you can use it for diving and swimming. Are these the only prominent features of this watch? We took a closer look at what the professionals liked and disliked about this sports wearable.

Pros / What Customers Like:

  • Despite the big weight, most athletes found the silicone strap comfortable and not irritating. This was a big plus for runners, they mentioned pulling the strap tight, and it does not slide around while jogging or running.
  • The great thing different athletes found outstanding about the watch is that it supports more than 80 different sports types.
  • Triathlon users, runners, cyclists, and swimmers used it in their training with outstanding results.
  • Ultra runners and hikers found the separate GPS settings great as it helps conserve the battery life, as they do not need split-second measurements.
  • Most avid sports users found the display easy to read outdoors and with a couple of second light up helps them to view their data.
  • Professional sports users found the battery life exceptional and last up to 10 days of running with the GPS on.

Cons / What Customers Don't Like:

  • Joggers found the design of hitting the middle button first to access the touchscreen annoying, but do make it easier to use.
  • Although there are separate GPS signals, runners found using the best mode less accurate compared to other smartwatches available.
  • Another disappointment mentioned by others is the watch does not have a built-in heart-rate monitor. However, you can use it with a third-party strap.

Verdict:

If you are a serious athlete, you will be more than pleased with the Suunto Spartan Ultra. The only problem is it lacks the built-in heart-rate monitor and the app is not the best. The watch is perfect for golfing, swimming, skiing, and running.
