Garmin HRM-Tri Review

For triathlon users, the Garmin HRM-Tri according to users is one of the best heart rate monitors you can buy. For swimmers the promise of using the device in water with ANT+HRM is outstanding. However, is this HRM monitor perfect?

Pros / What Customers Like:

  • Even if the Garmin has an HRM-Swim model, most triathlon users found using the HRM-Tri enough. The fitness tracker tracks your swimming, running, and biking.
  • Most professional sports users found the ANT+HRM broadcast simple and offered them accurate live HR data.
  • Swimmers found the recorded data accurate, there are no unusual peaks, and consistent when compared to previous data saved.
  • Consumers found the Garmin Connect great and show the HR data without any gaps.
  • Some athletes found they could easily use the Triathlon-mode files with Sporttracks by doing a standard import. Other users had problems while using 3rd-party apps.
  • An important key point mentioned by one triathlon user is the excellent battery life, as he only needed to replace the battery after a year of use.

Cons / What Customers Don't Like:

  • Triathlon users found using the device great, but the downside is that all the data only works with the FENIX3, Fenix 5, Chronos, Forerunner 935/630, 920XT or EPIX. It does work with a normal heart rate monitor only showing live heart rate data over ANT+.
  • A big gripe for most athletes is that the pod is not removable and if it breaks and not under guarantee you will have to throw it away.

Verdict:

The Garmin HRM-Tri is a bit expensive, yet, comfortable to wear and the catching is great. Garmin has sorted out most of the data capture, retrieval, and analysis issues mentioned by some users.
